Villa de Leyva is a municipality in Colombia. This beautiful little town can be found in the province of Recaute in the department of Boyacá. It was founded in the year 1572 and its old name was Villa de Santa María de Leyva. Since 1954, it has been one of the national monuments of Colombia. The typical architecture of the town is colonial style and it is known for representing the ancient cities of Colombia, without big buildings that could disturb the colonial atmosphere.
