My very loud and restless night ended around 05:30. Campsites are a curse and a blessing. The benefits of the infrastructure (toilet, shower, kitchen) are often offset by the density of people.
I hit the road around 8am. Since the stores were closed the day before, Sunday, and my food supply wasn't quite optimal, I was happy to find a supermarket for my breakfast stop after 20km. Very idyllic and quiet, located on the shore of Lake Balaton. One thing I often observe in Hungary are anglers. Two of them had also settled here at my breakfast spot.
The path along Lake Balaton remained varied. New buildings alternated with old weekend settlements. Sometimes I was on the main road, sometimes I made progress through the small villages on side roads. All the houses have very different architectural styles, which made it difficult to keep my eyes on the road. Just before my second break of the day, I passed through a real villa area with a great view.
The break was also my farewell to Lake Balaton, I enjoyed the sun in the harbor with a coffee and cookies. Because afterwards, it went very steeply uphill into the adjacent mountains. I enjoyed one last view and then covered my kilometers through forests and villages. I felt really good. Around 4pm, I passed by a döner kebab fast food restaurant with a bakery. Dinner, a dürüm, was served. At that moment, the cloud formation changed and it looked like rain was coming. It came down hard and forced me to seek shelter in bus stop shelters. But the evening still had some sun for me, and with that behind me and the wind at my back, I began the search for a place to sleep. Many kilometers later, I finally found my spot, off in the fields of the Hungarian hinterland. The night was filled with deer barking and nightingale singing. I felt a bit uneasy, as I didn't know how far away the nearest houses were and whether someone would notice the never-ending barking. With 126km in my legs, I found it difficult to find rest in this night.
