Located on the Ohio River, the city of Owensboro has approximately 60,000 residents, making it the fourth largest city in the state of Kentucky. It is also considered a stronghold of barbecue grilling (BBQ). The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) was founded here in 1986, but then moved to Nashville. But the Hall of Fame (of bluegrass music) has existed here since 1991. The nearby birthplace of Bill Monroe was probably a key reason for locating the Hall of Fame and museum here.
The museum presents the origins and history of bluegrass music in great detail and well. I walk through the entire exhibition with an audio guide (unfortunately you can only hear it in one ear). There are 41 listening stations. Numerous (borrowed) instruments, items of clothing and things that have to do with music or the musicians are on display.
After I finish the tour, a bluegrass jam session is supposed to take place at 1:30 p.m. But unfortunately there are no other musicians present. So I play some of the (quite good) musical instruments there, but soon leave the museum.
