I still owe you a weekend post! I'm currently sitting in the subway on the way back from my last Seoul adventure and have a bit of time. So let's go!
You may remember that I drove back to Seoul from Sokcho on Sunday morning? As soon as I arrived at the bus station in Gangnam, things went very quickly. I quickly got a ticket, took the subway home, put my bag down, changed and went back. Then another 40-minute bus ride and I was in the small town of Yongin.
Fun fact: Yongin is located south of Seoul and is best known for the Everland theme park that is located there. The "small town" is meant ironically, by the way, because the city also has over 1 million inhabitants....
Anyway, one of these residents picked me up at the train station and then we went to have lunch. It was 3 p.m., I hadn't eaten anything all day (I've gotten really good at that now) and was accordingly hungry!
There was Korean barbecue, which was what I wanted. I wanted to eat it once during my trip! It was also very tasty, as long as I didn't eat the red soup (spicy), the chilis (very spicy) or the dark red sauce (instant death)! 😅
I can only recommend that you put a small metal bowl with oil on the grill when grilling and cook garlic cloves in it. And onion rings on the grill. Both are fantastic!
Then we took the little miniature train, of which I was sure to take lots of photos, to the next stop. The bar where my friend works and which is actually closed on Sundays, but was opened especially for me.
There, he and his colleague had specially prepared a table including a welcome drink, there were two bottles of super delicious red wine that the colleague (a sommelier) had chosen, and a "snack platter" with crackers, cheese and sausage.
Since there was no one else there, we could play all the songs we wanted and as loudly as we wanted on the big system, and it was just really fun. Afterwards, one of my wishes was granted: Karaoke! 😍
I really wanted to do that and it was so great! We met some of their other colleagues there. It was so much fun that I missed the last bus to Seoul. Oops!
So it happened that I was stranded somewhere for the second time on this holiday... I emailed school to say I was sick so that my private teacher would know, the guys organized a place for me to sleep in a motel and then Sunday went into overtime!
When I woke up the next day with a not so mild headache, I remembered why I usually stick to one glass of wine... But well, I had to get through it.
There was a very hearty hangover breakfast, namely 돼지국밥 (Dwe-dschi-guck-bap), which translates to "pork, soup, rice" and is, not surprisingly, a soup with rice, mushrooms, onions, and pork.
Then I took a walk along the river and stopped off at a café, where the conversations became more and more sluggish as my eyelids got heavier. In the early afternoon I took the bus back to Seoul, did a bit of laundry, ate leftovers from the fridge and then went to bed really early.
The trip to Yongin was definitely one of my travel highlights!
Ps: You already know Tuesday, with the sentimental outburst on the river bank. That means the next post will continue with Wednesday. That was good. I promise!
