The Volta Lake with the Akosombo Dam completed in 1966 is the largest inland lake in the country and still the largest artificial body of water on earth. The construction of the dam was intended by the Nkrumah government to ensure the energy supply for the economic development and industrialization of Ghana. Ghana is economically significant due to its rich natural resources. Gold, which also gave the former colony the name "Gold Coast," is Ghana's most important export. About one-third of export earnings and 93 percent of production in the mining sector are related to gold production.
In the lake there are countless trees that were flooded without consideration for anything. The inhabitants, mostly fishermen who live on small islands, travel on the lake and cut down the trees protruding from the water to use as firewood, and unfortunately as deep as possible. This makes sailing on the lake with boats a dangerous business. Therefore, someone always sits at the bow and warns of the logs. We also took a boat trip. When we got in, I noticed that water was entering the aluminum boat at the bow. Caused by damage from the logs. When I pointed this out to the 'Captain', he just said that if we go faster, the bow will emerge from the water and no water will enter. I didn't want to think about what would happen if the engine failed.
