01. - 06.09.2017 #Budapest

Once again: Hello there! ♡

We arrive in Budapest by bus and are once again amazed at how punctual the buses are here! Budapest is also beautiful - the mixture of old and new; ornate and stylish is really exciting and I really like it! The Hungarian cuisine is also delicious: Judith and I try garlic soup, lamb stew, and homemade salmon pasta! Yummy!!

Unfortunately, part of our Budapest trip wasn't quite appetizing:

The hostel (unfortunately chosen by me, sorry Judith) is rather small, everything looks old and broken. We cook in the evenings and the kitchen is really dirty. But the real surprise awaits us in the morning: Judith kills a bed bug in the morning! Blood comes out. At first, we're shocked and report it to the reception. The lady there is very nice, but only offers to spray the bed with insect spray. Even after insisting and arguing multiple times, we don't get a refund. Nevertheless, we leave the hostel and don't regret it. The new hostel is chic, modern, and cleaned every few hours! Wonderful!! :) But already on the first evening there, we quickly become disillusioned: there are molted skins on my mattress and dead bed bugs hiding in the bed cracks. Judith and I can hardly stand the disgust, even though we thought we hadn't been bitten up to that point. (Days later, Judith gets a nasty rash on her arm, her doctor later confirms that they are bed bug bites from the first hostel). The fatal thing about these creatures is that you can carry them from one hostel to the next and eventually to your home. When you get back home, you should freeze everything: clothes, toiletry bag, backpack! Judith has already gone through it, I still have it ahead of me and hope that I won't spread bed bugs all over the Balkans until then.

But because we're assured that the bugs are dead, we sleep (for now) calmly.

Buda & Pest

While the right side of the photo is Pest, you can see Buda on the left. Both sides are worth seeing, but they are quite different and Pest is much larger, because Buda is quite hilly.

You can enjoy the view in the photo by climbing up to the Liberty Statue, which stands on top of the Buda side.

This church is also in Buda - note the roof ;)

and last but not least, we enjoy the sunset over the Danube.
