Day 5 from Phoenix to Flagstaff

Δημοσίευσε: 25.06.2016

This morning was all about saying goodbye. After almost a year, Marielle had to say goodbye to her host parents and host sister. The first leg of the drive was from Surprise heading north. The landscape changes steadily. At first, thousands of cacti line the way. Then it becomes greener and enters the hilly landscape near Sedona. The landscape looks exactly like in a Karl May film. The Red Mountains surround Sedona. Suddenly, the earth turns red and bizarre rock formations line our path. Sedona itself, a small tourist town, is very well-kept with beautiful gardens.

We continued towards Flagstaff. The red rocks gave way to a huge forest area. We drove through Oak Creek Canyon. The road steeply ascended to the View Point. Hopi and Navajo Indians sell crafts and silver jewelry.

In Flagstaff, we set up camp at the campground. First, we had to level the motorhome. Then Susanne started preparing dinner. Suddenly, she noticed that the water in the pan wasn't level. Our leveling system had a defect and the camper was leaning on one side. Despite all efforts, we couldn't get the system back in operation, so we spent a relatively tilted night.

But dinner was still very delicious.
