Speed controls are carried out on the Moroccan roads, both with stationary radars and with mobile laser guns. Drivers try to warn each other with flashing lights and hand signals before the controls, but this does not always work. This morning, our driver was recorded by a police officer with a laser gun at a speed of 68 km/h instead of the allowed maximum speed of 60 km/h. The police, who were waiting about 1 km further on, promptly stopped Zaid. After about 20 minutes of waiting and some discussions (Zaid wanted to see his picture), the friendly police officer issued a fine of 150 Dirhams, equivalent to 15 CHF. Afterwards, the journey continued at the usual speed.
