Koalas, kangaroos and the climate

Day 65 - 11/13/23 - Brisbane City

Brisbane City - stroll and enjoy the city.

A noticeable number of bicycles and electric scooters on the road. Both get along well with each other and also with pedestrians. The electric scooters don't just lie or stand around. It seems to work very well here.

We even saw children around 10 years old riding electric scooters.

Day 66 - 11/14/23 - Maroochydore

Driving day from Brisbane to Maroodchydore.

We picked up our vehicle, a “full SUV” from Toyota, from Europcar and then cruised along the coast.

At around 4:30 p.m. we were in our huge accommodation and walked to dinner on the beach in the evening sun.

Day 67 - 11/15/23 - Driving day to look at Bilinga and Koala

Today we went from Maroochydore to Bilinga with a stopover at the Lone Pine Sancturary to take a close look at the koalas and kangaroos. The time difference to New Zealand becomes noticeable early on.

If the sun in New Zealand didn't set until after 8 p.m., it's already dark here at 6 p.m.

It is unusually hot - even for Australians.

Even though it is spring, we need to protect ourselves from the sun (UV 7-9). In addition, there is high humidity (today 87%). This is unusually hot for this time of year. Australians fear a hot summer and there are already reports on TV about water shortages in certain areas.
