Today we spent the morning at the campsite until 3 p.m. and waited out the heat in the pool and in the shade of the palm trees. Then we set off to explore the first foothills of the Sahara. With temperatures reaching 50 degrees, my car was unfortunately unable to provide any cooling as the air conditioning had broken down. We managed the first sandy areas well, but when we actually entered the sandy desert and we couldn't find any real grip under the tires for longer stretches, I sank completely in the sand. Recovering my car was very difficult at first, even the help of three locals who tried to pull the vehicle out was unsuccessful. Shoveling the tires out in the heat and blazing sun was a real ordeal. We lost a lot of time doing this, so we ended up having to drive through the sand dunes in the dark. Luckily, we were able to get out more quickly the second time we got stuck in the sand, but it also meant that the second vehicle got stuck. We finally reached our camp for the night at 11 p.m. No one was hungry for dinner anymore, so after admiring the night sky we fell asleep completely exhausted.
