Day 72: Waterfall tour

Δημοσίευσε: 05.10.2023

Today we went on a waterfall tour with Janne. We met at Gluggafoss waterfall at half past one. There we first looked at the waterfall again and then walked up, as there are two other, slightly smaller waterfalls on the way up.

Afterwards we drove together to Seljalandsfoss, the famous waterfall that you can walk behind. Luckily, with rain pants and jackets, we didn't get that wet and then we went to see the Gljúfrabúi waterfall, which is less than a ten-minute walk away.

At the souvenir stand we were both given hot chocolate and a donut to fortify ourselves.

Next on our way was Nauthúsafoss. It's not my favorite waterfall, but it's definitely my favorite way to a waterfall. The path in the gorge along the river is really just magical and of course the waterfall itself is really beautiful too.

Merkurker, a gorge with a river, was the last thing on our way. To get there we had to walk over a small bridge. Describing these wooden boards as a bridge is really an exaggeration. Basically it was a bunch of pallets stacked up with two or three wooden planks in between - not exactly trustworthy. But the scenery is really worth it. It was beautiful and totally surreal.

On the way back we stopped at a small waterfall that isn't even shown on Google Maps and doesn't seem to have a name of its own. He wasn't big, but he was really cute and wonderfully quiet.

It was a really beautiful and eventful day, even though we didn't leave until midday.

See you then

Julia
