Malaysia - Living in the Fairy Tale Castle of Langkawi

Δημοσίευσε: 31.03.2018

For the first time, we are traveling to Malaysia and arriving on the island of Langkawi by ferry - the 'Mallorca' of Malaysia. The immigration process is very simple, and we are greeted at the pier by an oversized eagle statue, one of the landmarks of Langkawi. We are staying in a large hotel in the capital city of Kuah, which is a fantastic fairy tale castle that our family is very pleased with. In the evening, the kids try out the illuminated pool, and we spend the evening hours relaxing at the pool bar. The next morning, we head to the nearest supermarket to look for baby food. We are relieved to find a good selection here, as there was very little available for our baby Le in Thailand. Our next task is to buy tickets for the ferry to Penang. On the way, we stop at a huge outdoor playground, which the kids enjoy until we are surprised by a tropical rain shower.

We walk everywhere, and I am quite surprised by how dirty and littered everything is. I expected more from the dream island of Malaysia, and I am not really 'clicking' with Langkawi. In the adjacent pond, monitor lizards 'live' among piles of trash, which is difficult to watch.

The next day, we rent a car and drive around the island, making a stop at the famous Cenang Beach. The kids go into the water briefly with Bo, but the water is not refreshing due to the hot temperatures, and it is also not recommended because of the 'water fleas' in the water. So the three of them quickly get out again.

And so we drive to the highest mountain on the island and encounter many monkeys. In the late afternoon, we tackle the next tourist attraction and take the cable car up to the second highest mountain on the island. At the top, we of course take the nature walk to the famous suspension bridge, an architectural masterpiece. Fa dares to lie on the glass panels on the floor, posing not only for our photo album but also for various other albums of Asian visitors. The view from the Sky Bridge is truly amazing. And once we are back down, Fa and Ma take a shower in the ground fountains in front of the cable car. Soaked but very happy, we go for dinner. Our kids have to show up in the restaurant with towels and wet clothes since we didn't bring any spare clothes. However, no one here seems to mind...
