Day 11 | 08.09.2018 Spokane - Seattle

Δημοσίευσε: 09.09.2018

We had to cover over 200 miles today and then we were in Seattle. Once again big city vibe... and oh yes, Seattle has that. Beautifully nestled in the water, Seattle is wonderfully spacious and very hilly. From a distance, we could already see the Mariners' and Seahawks' stadiums. As is usual in the States, in a great city location, almost right by the port. I was a bit annoyed that I didn't arrange tickets for the Mariners game, because the Yankees are visiting today. You can see that in the city, with people wearing NY shirts or caps everywhere.

But before we plunged into the hustle and bustle, we had to go to the Budget car rental. That's what was instructed to us in San Francisco before we go to Canada 🇨🇦. The purpose should be evident... the friendly gentleman in the office only marked the information about insurance on our documents, it would be asked about occasionally at the border. Why they couldn't have done that in San Francisco was not clear to us, nor to the Budget guy here...

Never mind! We made our way to Pike Market Place. Not far from the NCL cruise ship, crowds of people awaited us, through which we wiggled our way. We also found a parking space and a nice gentleman from Vancouver helped us with the machine. 5 dollars 💵 were due for a maximum of 2 hours.

The approach beforehand is breathtaking, with a tangle of highways, passing right by the 4th floors of residential buildings with a great view of the Sound.

The market at Pike Market Place is pretty cool. Similar to the Hamburg fish market, the incredible abundance of beautifully arranged bouquets for 20 dollars and less stands out...

We ate a Seattle egg dog, a hot dog where the sausage is surrounded by a firm scrambled egg, without bread. Unusual but not bad as a little snack in between.

And we even scored a failed freebie.

Then we came to the first Starbucks at Pike Market in 1902 from 1971, where we had to wait for about 30 minutes, because the store is tiny. A doorman regulated the access so that it was very pleasant inside. There aren't even tables to sit at. Of course, when friends and alumni Baldwin, Bowker, and Ziegl opened the small shop, the plan was certainly not to start a billion dollar company that has fans all over the world. A few souvenirs were snagged and we continued on with smiles.

I failed again to bring back Converse Chucks. The prices seem to be standardized now. Too bad...

Right next door, we found the Hardrock Café. There too, I almost traditionally found something... 🤪👍

Then we drove a little further to the Space Needle. Probably the landmark of the city.

The Pop Museum... probably interesting. Unfortunately, it's also expensive.

We would have liked to go up, but we decided not to for over 100 bucks. We strolled around there for a while. The Chihuly Garden and Glass was also nearby, but it had similar prices. So we left it at that. In the Armory, we got 3x chili cheese with fries from the cool guys... super delicious, but as is usual in America, incredibly generous.

We have accommodation at the Americas Best Value Inn in Shoreline, barely 15 minutes from the city center. Good location, Spartan furnishings. Where we had 1 chair + table the previous days, here we have two beds and a dresser... well, it's absolutely fine for us to sleep. So I'll say good night again and greetings to everyone still reading here. 🤪

PS: the Yankees win 4:2 against Seattle! I was able to watch it on TV in the meantime,
