Rottnest Island-Quokkas

प्रकाशित कीता: 14.10.2016

Once again, we had to get up early because we were picked up by the shuttle bus at 8:10. Two other people from our hostel also wanted to go to Rottnest Island. Anja (from Belgium) and Natalie (from Germany).
It was going to be warm, so I put on shorts and a top, but I also wore a sweater. It's still a bit chilly in the morning.
The shuttle bus took us to Hillarys. From there, the ferry goes to Rottnest Island. We picked up our bikes there and then got on the ferry. The journey took 40 minutes and Mr. Bean was showing on a big TV there.
The ferry was a bit wobbly and I felt a bit sick from time to time. But I didn't feel like throwing up or anything. It got better when I looked at the water. From time to time, we could see whales in the water. So it was a free whale watching tour.
On Rottnest Island, it was also a bit chilly at first. We rode our bikes everywhere and of course, we got lost :D It gradually got warmer, especially on the bikes because there were constant uphill climbs. You wouldn't have expected it, but it was quite steep uphill and it felt like every 200m.
But the beaches there are amazing. Turquoise water, white sand.
We chose a route that passed by many lakes. We had to take a break and eat something along the way.
After we finished the route, we were back at the starting point where there is food and souvenir shops. There were also many quokkas there. We only saw a few of them on our way around the island.
The others took the legendary selfie with the quokkas. I'm not really a selfie type.
After getting an ice cream for $5, we sat at the beach and enjoyed the break for a moment. But since there were many birds flying around and Isabel was a bit afraid of birds, we went to a pub.
The ferry back to Hillarys was at 16:30. The return journey was very relaxing and we were all almost falling asleep because we were so tired. We then took the shuttle bus back to the hostel from Hillarys.
Back at the hostel, we had some food and relaxed on the couch.
Since I planned to travel up the west coast with two Germans by bus, we looked up departure times and costs. The bus was a hop-on-hop-off bus, which means you can get off at different stations and stay there as long as you want and then continue with the next bus. But the bus had such inconvenient departure times that we considered renting a car. However, the other two are under 21. In Australia, you can usually only rent a car if you are over 21 or you have to pay an additional fee. But we couldn't find a cheap car. The bus was leaving on Thursday, but I had only booked accommodation until Wednesday, so I had to extend for one more night. I had to ask about this the next day.
I then fell dead tired into bed at 00:00.
