Kaikoura....

After Christchurch, we continued on to Kaikoura. However, getting there was anything but fun. There are a total of 3 roads to Kaikoura, but one was closed due to a recent earthquake and another was closed due to an accident, so we had to take the so-called Inland Route. However, this route was also heavily affected by the earthquake in 2016. The road was not only very winding and hilly, but there was also a construction site every 10m.

The next day, we went on a flight to watch whales. We took off early in the morning in a very small plane. During the flight, we saw 3 sperm whales and a lot of dolphins. We also had beautiful views of the coastal landscape of Kaikoura.

Otherwise, we didn't do much in Kaikoura, and when rumors started circulating that all roads to Kaikoura would be closed due to approaching rainfalls, we decided to leave quickly since our ferry to the North Island is scheduled a few days later.
