Freaky Friday

Now it's time, today unfortunately we had to go back home.

But to keep the vacation in memory as long as possible, we have experienced a lot again.

First of all, panic broke out in the morning, as we had to secure all the purchased whisky bottles, samples, and glasses in the suitcase. Since that was naturally a lot of weight, Maxi's suitcase was way too heavy.

Only after Verena repacked everything from scratch, and shoes, sweaters, and toiletries were scattered from left to right, we ended up with a respectable 22.6 kilos per suitcase (maximum weight 23 kilos).

We then donated the cooler box and a few smaller items to a second-hand store - so we could also do something good.

The second shock didn't take long to appear, when we realized that we had forgotten part of our souvenirs for home in the room. We couldn't go back, so we had to get replacements...

To keep ourselves from getting bored and to keep our heart rates up, we visited the Edinburgh Dungeon today. It's like a huge haunted house with real actors who guide you through Scottish history. We both loved it, but you should definitely pre-book tickets and only come here with really good English skills. A group of French and a group of Chinese could have saved themselves the whole thing because you could practically see the question marks flashing above their heads.

Then it was time for us to start the journey back home.

Actually, the fact that we were sitting at the emergency exit, had plenty of legroom, and had a super friendly flight attendant sitting next to us should have reassured us. But Maxi wouldn't be Maxi if he didn't imagine thousands of horror scenarios in his head.

The day before, he had researched the duty-free allowances for the import of alcohol on a (editor's note: extremely dubious) website and came up with a proud 500 ml per person - so we were just a little over that 😁

So, he already saw himself having to pay thousands of euros in taxes or spending the night behind Swedish bars.

IMPORTANT: Here's the resolution - 10 liters per person would have been allowed. So, everything was in the clear.

His second concern was that the bottles wouldn't even arrive intact, but that a dripping, whisky-scented suitcase would be lying on the baggage carousel. To avoid that, we made another stop at a hardware store where Maxi got adhesive tape with the inscription 'Fragile' and wrapped the suitcase from top to bottom with it.

That seems to have helped because so far everything seems to have survived.

Note: we still have a 15m roll of 'Fragile' tape to give away 😁

After 12 great days in Scotland, we are now on our way back home. We saw a lot and experienced even more. We would do many things the same way, but not everything.

We will summarize exactly what that is in one last blog entry.

Good night and best regards,

Maxi and Verena
