Good evening!
Last evening in Vietnam, how quickly time flies 😶.
We had breakfast at 9 o'clock again today and - thaaank God 🙏🏽- there was no noodle soup, but normal fried eggs and toast. Well, the portion was a bit tiny, but hey, at least something to eat. Then we had time to chill and watch Netflix, the tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels didn't start until 1 pm.
At half past 11 we finally got up and went to eat something before we started.
The drive to the tunnels took about 1 1/2 hours in a small bus over some bumpy roads, but we're used to that 🤙🏾😂.
During the drive, the tour guide told us a bit about Vietnam and the war. Well, he tried, his English was a bit difficult to understand 🤓. But never mind, you understood the essentials. When we arrived, he already started more or less running with us into the forest area where the entrances to the tunnels are located.
I have to say that you can't do this tour without a guide, because otherwise you can't get in, but let's be honest - you need the guide, otherwise you would never find the entrances 🤷🏽♀️. They are all nicely hidden under the leaves - that's how the Vietnamese prevented the Americans from finding them right away. And besides, the entrances were so small that a normally built American would never have fit in. Point for Vietnam 🤙🏾😂.
Then we looked at a few traps that were hidden at the time, just like the entrances.
So these tunnels are really something, the Vietnamese were really sly, but when you consider that they spent months or even years there, it makes you feel different. Especially since these tunnels were only 5-10 cm high in some places and built in a really complicated way, so they had to remember every path exactly, otherwise they had a problem. The guide also said that part of the tunnel system is still buried (by American bombs) and they simply don't have the money to excavate it again.
So it was really interesting to see all this, but it's a strange feeling when you think about what these soldiers had to go through there.
Then we drove back to Saigon around 4 pm - 2 1/2 hours because of the traffic 🤦🏽♀️. At least we could go eat right away. Since Vietnam played against the Philippines today, there was a lot going on accordingly. And the Vietnamese are really crazy when it comes to football. The traffic was temporarily half paralyzed because all the scooter riders stopped in front of the screens. We found it all a bit funny, especially because the football they played looked like in our local league 🤔😂. But never mind, Vietnam won 2-1 and they celebrated as if they had become world champions 🤷🏽♀️😂. We went back to the hotel, it was too loud for us 😂. Besides, we still had to pack 🤦🏽♀️. We are a bit sad that the 4 weeks in Vietnam are already over, because the country is really beautiful and the people are really friendly. But Cambodia will surely be really nice too, we're looking forward to it.
We're going to bed now, we have to get up at 5:30 am, our plane leaves at 8:30 am 🛫.
Have a nice Sunday and a nice first Advent 🕯, bye with ööööö.
