Hello from paradise! ♥

It's already been two weeks since I boarded the plane in Düsseldorf. Why does time pass so quickly??? Can someone please slow down time?

08/01/2018: Sophie and I had our last breakfast together on the beach in the morning and generally spent the morning at the beach before Sophie took the ferry from the pier to Chumphon and then took the overnight train to Bangkok.

Goodbye, Sophie! See you in France! ♥

In the afternoon, I made myself comfortable by the pool with a book (thanks again, Grandma!), but I quickly met four Germans who have been traveling since October and now want to do their Open Water Diver course on Koh Tao. So, I don't have to worry about not meeting anyone. Travelers are often very open and sociable people, and if you don't choose those who only brag about what they have seen in their lives, you can hear some interesting stories.

In the evening, Naz and I rode his moped to a viewpoint on the island to watch the sunset. The last part we had to hike - or rather climb - because the viewpoint itself is rather inaccessible. By the way, the roads and traffic here on the island are catastrophic. First of all, it's confusing enough that we drive on the left side of the road here, and then everyone drives like crazy! Call me overly cautious or even a coward - but if I can avoid it, I definitely won't voluntarily be a road user in Thailand again. The roads are, of course, not paved, so the lightweight motorcycles without grip can slide away on the sandy surface. And there are huge holes in the road everywhere. Sooo dangerous!

But the little hike was totally beautiful (only the flip-flops were rather disadvantageous 😅). The trees look so different here, somehow like broccoli. The sounds are also completely different. The birds sing different melodies and there is a hissing, chirping, and rustling in the bushes everywhere.

Once we reached the top, we could enjoy a beautiful view, even though the sunset looked more spectacular before. It's terrible how spoiled I have become over time! 😅

09/01/2018: Today was another diving day. Don't worry - I won't tell you too much this time! 😅 Just this: We had really good weather, which means good conditions for visibility under water. Today we could see up to 12m!
With Maxim, two French divers, and a German, we went to 'Shark Island' today. Don't you think the rocks look kind of artificial, standing there all crooked and lopsided on the island? 😅 Despite the promising name of the dive site, we didn't see any sharks, but we did see another stingray and a 'triggerfish'. I have a lot of respect for these giant fish! They really like to defend their territory and sometimes attack divers by biting them or whacking them with their dorsal fin. While the first reaction of many divers would probably be to quickly swim up towards the water surface, that is actually a serious mistake. Triggerfish have their territory in the shape of a funnel, from the bottom of the sea up to the water surface. So, if you swim up, you would still be in their territory, which they desperately want to defend. Instead, you should swim out of the territory sideways. I learned that in my Advanced Course. 😅 Very exciting stuff!

When I came back, I played frisbee on the beach with some people while the sun was setting next to us. Oh man, it's so beautiful here!!! ♥

Now I'm already in bed - diving makes me sooo tired!
Sending you lots of love and sunshine,
your Karo ♥♥♥
