Avebury and Cotswolds

Continuing on a wide detour towards Wales, I discovered Avebury, which strangely is hardly known. In Avebury, there is a stone circle, similar to Stonehenge. Only this one is bigger and older! And not well known?! Strange, isn't it? Avebury originated over 6000 years ago (1000 years more than Stonehenge). Initially, only posts were erected here, which were gradually replaced by stones. These stones were larger than the blocks of Stonehenge, but they have weathered more and are hardly recognizable as blocks, and not as photogenic as Stonehenge. The circle is more complex, as it measures over 100m in diameter and has missing stones in some places. Nevertheless, a very interesting place! The ditch that was dug out around the huge circle is 5m deep and about 20-30m wide. Unbelievable how many tons of earth were removed for that...

We continued to travel through the Cotswolds, which consist of several charming villages. A wonderful place to stay. A holiday here is worth it! Antique shops and all kinds of old stuff can be found on every corner. In one of the villages, there was a church with these two trees in front of the entrance.
