Admittedly, we had a completely different picture of Extremadura. We expected dry landscapes. But that's not the case at all. The fact is, the area is sparsely populated. Extremadura is the same size as Switzerland but is only populated by 1 million people. The Romans and Moors have left their mark here.

One of the typical features of Extremadura are the black pigs 'Pata Negra', which feed exclusively on acorns and grass. The Jamon bellota, from these pigs, is made, in my opinion, the best Jamon. The powerful bulls should also not be missing. The photo is a bit misleading, there was a fence between the photographer and the bull.

We settled in Trujillo for 8 days. Trujillo has a beautiful historic quarter. With 10,000 inhabitants, it is also a pleasant size.

There are numerous nature parks in Extremadura. One of the most famous and impressive is Parque Nacional de Monfragüe. You can read more about it in the blog post 'Grosse Vögel-mittlere Vögel-kleine Vögel' by Elsbeth. The vultures impressed me once again.

In the nature park, we went on a hike to a viewpoint, from where you have a good view of the park, but also of the Rio Tajo, the longest river in Spain.

Another excursion took us to Guadalupe, which is known for its pilgrimage church Real Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

Extremadura has left positive traces with us, a visit is highly recommended.
