From the towers of the Quadriburgus Oberranna, you could overlook a long stretch of the Danube and thus monitor the river traffic perfectly. Just about 100 m upstream, the Danube formed a small branch that offered ideal conditions for ships to dock. The Rannatal river, which flows into it opposite, could also have been a reason for the construction of the structure at this location. At the archaeological site, facing the Danube, there is a window with a funny Roman picture, whose dialogue was painted in mirror writing for selfies. I therefore rotated one photo so that you can read the text.
The entrance to the fortress was located on the Danube side of the Quadriburgus, between the north and east towers. A gate cheek was uncovered in 2018. In the spirit of contemporary monument protection and UNESCO World Heritage status, the east tower, which was only partially excavated in 1840, remains untouched underground. This creates an archaeological reserve that gives future generations the opportunity to use other methods to answer unanswered or new questions.
