Hello everyone,
After crossing the Arctic Circle, it was time for a new adventure! And what can top the Arctic Circle? There's only one thing - the North Cape!!!
And now many of you will say that you can't do that with two kids! But let me tell you, these are not normal kids, but kids who have crossed the Arctic Circle. 😂 Our journey begins and we are amazed by the rugged nature that presents itself along the coastal road.
The next highlight is the North Cape Tunnel, and let me tell you, it is truly an adventure. This tunnel goes nearly 7 kilometers under the Arctic Ocean. You drive in and it feels like it goes on forever, steeply descending in a not very trust-inspiring structure. The tunnel has a 10% incline and at its deepest point, it is 212 meters below sea level. Once you reach the bottom, you are soon driving steeply uphill again, following an almost never-ending chain of yellow ceiling lights, unable to even imagine daylight. After almost 2 hours of driving, during which we stopped counting the reindeer (the number of animals is in the thousands, I assume there are more reindeer than people here), we are there and I would like to write about my first impressions! However, everything is shrouded in thick fog, and we can only see about 10 meters ahead.
Now it's time to go to the visitor center, or as I call it, the adventurer's lounge. Very interesting... in a tunnel, you learn all about the history of the North Cape. At the end, you can visit the chapel carved into the rock, or embark on a journey with light and sound effects in a dark room. However, I don't quite understand the point of sitting in a dark room and being flashed by a lightning device with thunder sound effects. But that's what adventurers are like, we feel more comfortable when we can touch things.
So now we go outside in search of the famous globe, which is not easy in this fog. But we find it, and of course, document it in photos for posterity.
A long and exciting day full of adventures is coming to an end.
Just quickly make some food and then, after almost getting lost in the fog with Nala, it's time to go to bed.
See you tomorrow...
