Since Marie plans to complete her high school diploma in 2017 and it is not yet clear what will happen afterwards, we wanted to have one last big family vacation before that.
Since I have always wanted to experience the size and vastness of Canada, now was the chance to make this happen. After each of us expressed our travel wishes in a family meeting, I was able to convince everyone for Western Canada. However, the interests were different. One wanted to go to a big city, the next one to the sea, and the third one to the Rocky Mountains. In short, a bit of everything, so I could start planning.
We wanted to start in Vancouver, then Vancouver Island, Calgary, Banff - and Jasper National Park, all in 3 weeks.
I also wanted to try out a motorhome for quite some time and thought that there would be enough space for that in Canada. However, Anne was concerned that 4 people would live too closely together in a motorhome for 3 weeks. So I planned the first 10 days with Airbnb, guesthouses, hostels, and hotels. The last 10 days in the Rockies with a motorhome.
It quickly became clear that I will plan and book everything individually.
- 4 days in Vancouver
- 2 days in Courtanay (east of Vancouver Island)
- 2 days in Tofino (west of Vancouver Island)
- 2 days in Victoria (south of Vancouver Island)
- 10 days in the Rocky Mountains with a motorhome
So the search for flights, accommodations, motorhome, etc. could begin.
