A warm welcome from tropical Queensland!
It's been a week since we published our last blog. We experience so much here in one week that it's hard to capture it all in a single blog post. Let's give it a try anyway. :-)
Last weekend, we started with a sailing tour on the Matador through the Whitsunday Islands. We snorkelled in the Great Barrier Reef, successfully battled seasickness, enjoyed the sun in the hammocks on board, and the pure white sandy beach of Whitehaven Beach. We also had the perfect half-round rainbow on the evening of the first day of sailing: We are in heaven on earth right now.
Unfortunately, the ventilation/air conditioning of our old camper broke down for the second time in six weeks on the way to Townsville. Without our own vehicle, we hitchhiked to the ferry. We crossed over to Magnetic Island and admired koalas in the wild eucalyptus trees.
Past sugarcane, mango, and banana plantations, wild wallabies, sunflower fields, along a winding mountain road in the middle of the tropical rainforest, we found ourselves at Wallaman Falls. The 268-meter high and thus highest single-drop waterfall in Australia fell down a steep rock wall in a remarkable setting.
In the midst of the Atherton Tablelands in Mareeba, we enjoyed the coffee, tea, and chocolate variety of Australia in Coffee World. A must-do for a woman. :D
So, the next few days we will continue heading north, where we can enjoy the last days in Queensland with over 33°C and a humidity of around 70%.
Warm regards,
Vroni and Maria
