Shark Bay - François Peron National Park

Cyhoeddwyd: 19.10.2017

In order not to drive the entire distance from Coral Bay to Monkey Mia in one go, we decided to spend the night in Carnarvon. The morning ritual of 'taking down the tent' brings its own challenges with routine. You always get a bit more comfortable... So Martin no longer climbed onto the roof to detach the poles from the tent window, but wanted to do this from the door's footboard. When he then pulled down the pole, it slipped out of his hand and hit him right on the forehead with full force! Fortunately, there was no cut, only a big bump...

In the morning, we visited the blowholes near Carnarvon and arrived in Monkey Mia about 3.5 hours later.

Of course, we also watched the highly celebrated morning dolphin feeding. So we enjoyed the camping facilities, as the next night was planned in François Peron National Park (camping only with toilets).

Only those who have a 4wd capable vehicle are allowed into the park! Of course, we have one - Toni! 4wd doesn't always mean 4wd here. You also need high ground clearance - we have that too!

The first stop was at a station where you reduce the tire pressure. As suggested, Martin went to work and shortly afterwards we followed the infinitely long sandy single-lane paths. An experience pure, which we (especially Martin) have been looking forward to since the beginning. The tracks were generally in very good condition. Occasionally, there were sections with extremely soft sand, where you had to fight your way through. We drove around the entire peninsula to get an overview of where our campsite should be. Once we reached the top of the cape, we parked Toni and put on our good shoes. A path (45min / direction) led us right through the sandy coastal landscape to a lookout. What a fabulous view!

In the evening, we settled in at the lagoon. Once again, a great view with a sunset directly from the camping chair.
