Zwettl an der Rodl

Cyhoeddwyd: 23.06.2017

On Wednesday morning (June 21, 2017), I get up around half past six and take a short walk with Rango, who then focuses on his breakfast. He gets dog sausage and a lamb bone. I get to taste some of the sourdough bread again, along with black currant jam and coffee. Bad Leonfelden will be remembered for its experienced hospitality.

After saying goodbye to Andreas and his family, I pack up my stuff and leave our accommodation just before eight o'clock, heading south. Since it's not too hot yet, we quickly reach Dietrichschlag via a field path. However, the temperature rises quite quickly and I decide to take a detour. From Dietrichschlag, we head west into the forest and uphill. After about 2 hours and 6 kilometers of walking, we take a break at Distelbach.

Afterwards, we continue south along the stream. There is a path according to the navigation system, but it is not visible. So, we walk off-road for a few kilometers. Just before we reach a golf course, the path reappears. By now, it has become uncomfortably warm. When Rango is hesitant to drink because he might get wet paws, I put him in the Distelbach. The therapeutic measure seems to work, he drinks and even puts his hindquarters in the cool water. We pass through the golf course and then a bee educational trail, and around 12:00 and after about 12.5 kilometers, we arrive in Zwettl.

Here, we settle down for a longer break by the Rodl, have lunch, and doze off a bit. Around two o'clock, a thunderstorm front approaches and shortly afterward, it starts raining heavily. We can take shelter at the market and wait for better weather.

Around 4:00 p.m., the rain stops and we continue. However, Rango doesn't seem to be in the mood for more walking (the long break didn't do him good, he limps). A bus driver asks if we want to go to Linz. The decision is pressing, he's probably running late. We get on and take the bus 20 kilometers to Linz. I use the time to chat with the driver, who seems to really like my adventure. Anyway, he apologizes for not giving me a free ride and even tries to refund my ticket (meanwhile, Rango is already riding for free). When we arrive in Linz, the Dicke (Rango) is running smoothly again!? I think he's up to something. Around 5:30 p.m., we reach a campsite at Pleschinger Lake in the northeast of Linz and set up our camp.
