New country, new people

Cyhoeddwyd: 23.08.2019

After Romania, I finally went alone by bus to Varna (Bulgaria). Fortunately, I was able to stay with Angelina's sister (one of the volunteers from Romania) and her boyfriend for a few nights. They were really helpful and showed me the city with their funny bicycles. I also discovered a new drink for myself: Boza. It is a lightly alcoholic, sweet beverage (originally made from millet) that is popular in the Balkans, Turkey, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Boza is usually consumed for breakfast.

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria and is located on the Black Sea. Historically and culturally, the port city has a lot to offer, as it has existed since the 5th century BC and has played a significant role as a trading center over the centuries.

In Varna, for example, I visited the Archaeological Museum. It houses the oldest gold treasure in the world. Additionally, there are numerous Roman remains, such as the well-preserved Roman baths. We also visited the Orthodox cave monastery 'Aladzha'.
