The tour on the BBQ Trail begins

Cyhoeddwyd: 11.10.2022

Today we had to say goodbye to Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach. It was really a nice time here. Now there were two days ahead of us that would be strongly dominated by the topic of BBQ.

We packed our cooler box with our breakfast supplies and headed to Surf City. It was still relatively cool this morning and the sky was rather cloudy. Unfortunately, we once again realized that all access points to the sea in Surf City were blocked by residential houses. So the only option left was to look for a picnic spot, which we finally found at a children's playground. In front of it was a sign indicating alligators and snakes. Steffi took a short photo trip, from which she returned unharmed. Due to the bad weather, we finally ate in the car.

Shortly before we left Surf City, we had some shopping time, which Steffi successfully used. Once again, we came across Americans who were either born in Germany or had German parents.

On the way to New Bern, we had the first unplanned BBQ stop on Route 17. New Bern itself made a rather sleepy impression. We strolled through the town center for a while when we happened to pass by the house where Pepsi was invented. After a short stop at a bar with a quirky 'fish counter', we continued inland. Now it was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to the sea.

After planned BBQ stops in Ayden, a town with a population of 5,000, and Willow Spring in the evening, we went in search of accommodation for the night, because we deliberately did not make a booking in advance for today or the following day. A little exhausted and full, we fell into bed.

Best regards,

Steffi and Stefan
