On the trail of The Walking Dead

What we saw today may not be special... unless you are a fan of The Walking Dead (TWD). Steffi, in particular, was eager to visit some of the filming locations from the series.

First, we drove about an hour from Atlanta to Senoia, GA, where guided tours were offered to show tourists the filming locations of the series.

Senoia turned out to be a small, sleepy town. When we arrived, everything was still closed. We parked and walked up the street to the small shop where we got the tickets for the tour. There were already props from TWD to see in the shop.

What we then realized: we were already in the middle of Woodbury. This street later served as a filming location for the Commonwealth. Both only mean something to those who have seen TWD.

Since we had over 1 hour until the start of the tour, we drove to nearby tiny places where some scenes were shot. Among other things, the famous wall on which Morgan wrote 'Away with you'.

Back in Senoia, we also visited the small The Walking Dead Museum. Among other things, the original door with the words 'Don't Open Dead Inside' and some other objects from the series were exhibited here.

The tour started on time at 12:00. There were four of us plus a guide. With a golf cart, we drove to various inconspicuous places in the city and had the scenes filmed there recalled. The residential complex that was all about Alexandria also belongs to Senoia. We saw, among other things, Rick and Carol's houses, as well as the house where Carl sat and ate pudding.

For fans of the series, this experience is simply amazing.

After having a bite to eat at the local BBQ restaurant, we quickly drove back to Atlanta, because we had to return the rental car. We expected a surcharge due to a delay of almost 2 hours, but we were lucky. We were back on the road quickly... without a car from now on.

After a short stay in the hotel room, we roamed the streets of Atlanta until we ended up in an Irish pub to escape the rain. As it should be... we spent the next few hours here and had a great time with 3, 8, or 10 Magners Cider. Happily, we stumbled back to the hotel room in the evening.
