After a lot of fruit for breakfast, we pack our backpack and take the hiking map from the shelf and head to the Vintgar Gorge. The gorge, advertised as one of the scenic highlights of Slovenia, is located just under 4 km north of Bled and is 1.5 km long.
Surrounded by the vertical walls of the Hom and Boršt mountains, the view is impressive due to the Radovna River with its numerous waterfalls and rapids. Along the river, there is a wooden walkway that takes visitors to the other end of the gorge.
The color of the water and the entire scenery make us forget about the many tourists. Absolutely beautiful!!!
After leaving the gorge, the hiking trail continues through dense forests and green meadows back to the valley.
We are on the hunt for the café that supposedly offers the best Bled cream cake (culinary highlight of the region). Unfortunately, the lifespan of a cream cake is not long enough for a photo, so we don't have any pictures of the cake slices for you.
When we return to our accommodation, we are glad to be able to put our hiking shoes in the corner for the day, because we will end the day at a small lake in Triglav National Park. Our landlord Alex recommended this lake to us, as here, amidst colorful flower meadows, cow and horse pastures, we are usually all alone.
We are not completely alone, but still find it super beautiful. We read and I dare to take a few strokes in the lake. It's refreshing, but that's about it. Just too cold!! Better to lie in the evening sun with an exciting book : )
