Today we are lacing up our hiking shoes again.
After breakfast on the terrace, however, we first pack our backpacks. Because we are leaving our accommodation again and from this afternoon on, we will be staying in Savica for a few days. Since we can't check into the new apartment until later, we want to make use of the time and take a closer look at Lake Bled.
So we prepare the car for departure, leave it with Alex and Ayda, and walk to Lake Bled. There is not much going on here in the morning, and we stroll along the lake shore, enjoying the weather and the view of the clear blue water and the surrounding mountains.
The lake is probably the most famous in the country and most people have already seen pictures of it. The classic image: the lake with its small island and the church on it in the foreground, the city of Bled surrounded by mountains and forests in the background.
Our host Alex told us that this famous picture is taken from a viewpoint on the west side of the lake.
After we have halfway circumvented the lake, we leave the path and start the ascent to the viewpoint. The narrow path is rocky, steep, and exhausting. But the view we have after about an hour compensates for the climb. The lake with its small island in the foreground, the city of Bled surrounded by mountains and forests in the background is in front of or below us.
After the descent, we walk along the shore again until we reach Bled. We still have some time before we can move into the new accommodation, so we indulge in another cream slice ; )
Satisfied and content, we get in the car and drive to Savica. The small village near Lake Bohinj is now our new home for three nights. Upon arrival, we experience a nice surprise. We had actually only booked a room with a shared bathroom here, but due to the fact that the holiday apartments are not fully booked, we are promptly upgraded to one free of charge. So now we are staying in a holiday apartment with our own kitchen, bathroom, and balcony, where we end the day with watermelon feta salad and Radler beer.
