In the past few days, we tried to organize return flights as recommended by the Federal Council. We pulled out all the stops, went all in, and went even further.
While we consulted the embassy to get more information, booked and rebooked flights, and got refunds, we also had to find a possible, affordable place to stay for days, weeks, or even months(?).
After a total of 6 booked flights per person, we finally received an answer today that let us know...
All the effort, stress, and frustration for nothing but more experience and serenity. However, we are glad about the story of how quickly our car was sold.
A smile, a wink, and the matter was settled.
For the Federal Council, it is clear and logical for us that not everyone will make it home.
Are we among those who won't make it? We don't know...
We are in Queenstown with an airport but not an international one. To get a flight so that we can reach the respective airports, we need a letter from the embassy with the appropriate "rescue"... easy, but time is running out and this one document "as the Lord says" won't bring us anything in less than 36 hours. Then the airport will be closed for domestic flights.
Information is provided, but in most cases, it is only useful for "calming down"... Ritalin would be better.
Ghost flights can still be booked for those who manage to get to an emergency landing site in an area with reception for their mobile phones.
The general situation is the same as in Switzerland.
Currently, we are in "Alert Level 3" because students and locals still have to go home to their places or are the only ones allowed on the flights.
We just received the alarm message "Alert Level Red" ..four...as always, locals first👍
Queenstown looks deserted, winter is arriving and the first peaks are being snowed. It's beautiful here. The next flights for a potential return after returning to Switzerland are paid for twice and recorded in vouchers🤷♂️ We'll see if they live up to their promises.
With transitional clothing and rain jackets, we enjoy the fresh temperatures and nature similar to Switzerland.
We were able to escape the winter for almost a year... is it catching up with us now?
Sympathy is definitely in the wrong place for us, and we look and hope for the poorest, most vulnerable people in the world. People who have no opportunity for quarantine, medical care, clean drinking water, etc.
Solidarity, a strong word in difficult times with a lot of trust.
Whatever comes or how it comes, everything has its reasons.
Stay safe and at home, take care and see you soon🤙 Don't forget the humor🤘
