Day 25 & 26 - From Barstow to LA

Cyhoeddwyd: 22.09.2016

The 25th day of our trip mainly consisted of a very long car ride from the Grand Canyon to Barstow where we stayed overnight before continuing to Los Angeles. Otherwise, nothing exciting happened today, except that it rained for the first time during our trip, but that didn't bother us because we were only sitting in the car.

Let's tell you what we did on day 26 instead. :-)

After countless hours on almost empty country roads, we were no longer used to being stuck in traffic. But to get to Los Angeles, it takes a little patience, as the traffic around the metropolis moves slowly and there are frequent jams. But that was soon over and we were able to return our rental car at LA airport on time.

But how do we get to the city now? Public transportation is scarce in LA. So we tried something new. With the 'LYFT' app, we ordered a ride to Hollywood. And behold, after just 3 minutes our car was in front of us, taking us quickly and affordably to our destination. Great app, we can only recommend it!

As a first step, we drove to the Hollywood district. For me as a big movie fan, it was an absolute highlight to walk along Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame. In the Chinese Theatre, we even had the privilege of a private tour!

Since time immemorial, all premiere of major Hollywood films have been held in this theater. It was opened in 1927 by the cinema operator Sid Grauman as a premiere theater in the style of a Chinese pagoda. The theater became famous worldwide for the hand and shoe prints of numerous movie stars, which are immortalized in cement slabs in the entrance area of the theater.

In 2013, the legendary theater was brought up to the latest state of the art and underwent a major renovation. It now has the 3rd largest IMAX screen in North America and can accommodate 932 visitors. But not only is the theater technologically state-of-the-art, the interior design is also impressive.

In the Dolby Theater, right next door, everything that ranks and names in the film industry meets for the annual Academy Awards ceremony. Although the red carpet is rolled out, we didn't encounter any stars.

I must admit, though, that I was somewhat disappointed with Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood district in general. Besides the big theaters, there isn't really much to see and the area is a bit run down.

We are excited to see what else we will experience in LA!
