After paying lots of money for the service, it was time for the koala search. First we drove to Waterfally Gully, as we found information that there will be lots of koalas even on the side of the street while driving and later walking to the waterfall. Well, there was a street sign warning of koalas, but otherwise only many houses or construction sites for houses next to the street, but no koalas. At the Waterfall Gully car park we decided to walk to the waterfall because maybe near the waterfall will be more trees left and therefore a koala. We saw lots of wildlife, e.g colorful birds near the waterfall, but no koala.
Stuart was pretty disappointed, so we were driving on to the Morialta Conservation Park, where Stuart got some gelato to calm down. After having some ice-cream we were ready for the walk to the Morialta Waterfall. On the walk, Stuart discovered after 178 days travelling through Australia his first Koala:
The koala was far away, high up in the tree, but nevertheless Stuart was very happy and released, that there are still Koalas in Australia. Walking on to the Morialta Waterfall we discovered another Koala not as high up in the tree, so Stuart was able to have a closer look at the Koala.
On the walk we also saw some rabbit, which surprised us as we thought they were hunted as they disturb the natural wildlife in Australia. But we also saw some native birds, like the Galahs and a blueish small bird before we reached the Morialta Waterfall.
On the walk back, Stuart had to make a little detour to have a look at his Koala again: the Koala was now awake, but did not move. So we went back and did the detour to the Kookaburra Rock Lookout. On the walk you see the Giant Cave and some wildlife like lizards, but not koalas. The Kookaburra Rock Lookout was not so spectacular, so Stuart agreed that the sighting of the koalas today was the highlight of the day.
For the evening, there was then for the first time at Adelaide Brighton Beach a really lovely sunset to watch. So Stuart thought this was great ending of an amazing day and stay at Adelaide.
