In June, it took us to the capital of Austria, Vienna, for my birthday! Since we drove about 8 hours by car, the journey took place through the night. Beforehand, we visited my cousin in Sandhausen and had lunch together with him. Arriving in Vienna, we first made our way to the Airbnb and unfortunately were awakened early in the morning by the rays of sunshine. We spent half of the day in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace and strolled through the tropical and desert houses. We were really lucky with the weather because we had sunshine and over 30 degrees for most of the vacation.
Our next accommodation was near the Wiener Prater, the public amusement park of Vienna, which is open all year round. We visited the Karlskirche and the Stephansdom. The Karlskirche had a enchanting reflection at sunset.
The next day we visited the Stephansdom from the inside and took the elevator up to the roof. It was a border experience for me with a fear of heights! Vienna itself is a very expensive city, but it impresses with its beautiful buildings. The ascent to the Stephansdom was like martyrdom as we spent at least 25 minutes looking for the elevator to the roof. In the evening, we visited the Wiener Prater and treated ourselves to a classic meal in a beer garden for dinner, when suddenly it started pouring rain and thundering. Fortunately, we were able to move and the waiter was in a playful mood. However, he was completely confused when I gave him so much tip that he couldn't stop thanking me.
The next day we strolled through the city, visited the Hofburg Palace and some other buildings. In the evening, we had a table at the best schnitzel restaurant in town and enjoyed it very much. The Wiener Schnitzel was served with real garnish, it was exceptionally delicious, but at the end the price was extraordinary too, at 120 €. Afterwards, we went to the Prater again and once again it started raining heavily. We visited a ride and then made our way home as quickly as possible. I gave my water bottle to a drunk girl as a gift, but when she opened the bottle, it exploded with full force on her!
All in all, Vienna was a great but expensive experience. Definitely worth a visit, but not the city that blew us away!
