We start the day with an instant coffee in our hotel room. Our first destination is Mount Wellington. Dennis checks the webcam at the top of the mountain in advance and can hardly see anything through the fog. At the hotel reception, we learn that it is still worth driving up the mountain. So we start the journey, but we are quickly disappointed because we can't see the famous beautiful view of the valley due to the fog.
Our next destination is the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. On the way there, we unfortunately have to admit that the first kangaroos we see in Australia are lying by the side of the road 😢
At the Wildlife Sanctuary, we are immediately greeted by kangaroos (finally 🥳). We are thrilled to see not only kangaroos but also Tasmanian devils, quolls, echidnas, emus, cockatoos, and snakes. We feed a few kangaroos and watch Maria, the Tasmanian devil, who walks in circles due to a brain injury.
The sanctuary's mission is to take in injured or sick animals that would not survive on their own in the wild.
After this wonderful experience, we continue driving and make a short stop at Meadowbank Lake. The landscape is really beautiful, and we enjoy the warm sun. We then proceed to an orchard and pick our own berries. Afterwards, we head to our accommodation in the inland area of Tarraleah. There is absolutely no network or Wifi there. We have a really nice cabin, and we meet little wallabies in front of it. In the evening, we have a burger at the town's only restaurant and then we fall tired into bed.
