Today we set off from Discovery Harbor in Campbell River by boat north to Orford Bay .
We discovered the first seal as we left the harbor area of Campbell River . A little later we were able to watch porpoises out at sea, but they were so fast that we unfortunately couldn't get a glimpse of them.
When we arrived in Orford Bay , two guides from the First Nations welcomed us. They welcomed us onto their land and took us on an exciting grizzly tour. And we were actually able to watch several grizzlies fishing for salmon and swimming from various vantage points.
We then took the ship back to Campbell River , where we saw sea lions and small bottlenose dolphins.
Overall, a really nice day that we actually wanted to end with a delicious turkey meal (today is Thanksgiving in Canada). Unfortunately, the restaurants were either closed today or were already fully booked. However, we were able to get a table for tomorrow evening in one of the restaurants that also offer a turkey menu - hopefully stocks will last until we get there! So for this evening we got something to eat from the supermarket and to celebrate the day the cashier gave us the customer card discounts on our purchase, even though we don't have this card. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
