With the famous Bergen Railway, which is considered one of the most beautiful train routes in Europe and is an adventure in itself, we are on our way to Oslo in the afternoon, where we only stay overnight, leaving the capital behind, to catch the train to Trondheim the next day at eight o'clock in the morning.
Bergen has been beautiful and truly worth seeing. However, when it comes to Norwegian cities, Trondheim marks my actual favorite. We want to stay here for about a day and a half, letting the bizarre charm of the city's dark and sometimes threatening sky and the lively and colorful cityscape take effect on us in cloudy and rain-soaked days, to take with us a deeper fascination that will continue to shine in our souls for a lifetime.
Staying here for a day and a half also means having enough time and leisure for repeated and intense exploration of all the impressive and worth seeing things that Trondheim has to offer. I have looked at the wooden storehouses on both sides of the Nidelva river and the venerable cathedral, the Nidaros Cathedral, several times, spread over several sequences. The Nidaros Cathedral is a special attraction in itself, as it represents the northernmost Gothic building from the Middle Ages and is also the only Gothic cathedral in Norway.
As we stroll through the picturesque district of Möllenberg with its bars and cafes towards the city center, passing by the Stiftsgarden and a few storehouses, another special feature of this city must not go unmentioned: In Trondheim, you will find the northernmost tram system in the world. And while it is raining again, we take the tram to the end station and enjoy one more view of the city before going to the harbor, where we discover something extraordinary and remarkable once again: a lifting railway bridge above the harbor entrance. As bonus images, so to speak, I have attached two photos of it at the end of my picture series. However, the spectacle of the lifting bridge itself has been another extraordinary experience that will remain unforgettable in my mind.
