After a quick breakfast with 'cafe con leche' and croissant, we walked from the hotel to the bus station. We were recommended not to hike the stage to Gijon, but to take the bus for the almost 30 km. The stage mainly leads along roads that are heavily frequented by cars and trucks. After about 1 hour of driving to Gijon, we realized that it was the right decision. In retrospect, we have to admit that for those who still plan to hike the path, we could have also skipped the walk to Aviles. The path led from the city center of Gijon to the industrial area, feeling like the Ruhr area in the 70s. After about 2 hours, we had left the misery behind and then had to walk uphill for 3 km. After passing through several small settlements, we headed towards the Greater Aviles area. Unfortunately, we could only walk along the road and the industrial plants became bigger and dirtier. We have not yet experienced northern Spain from this perspective, hopefully it remains an exception. After 27 km, which were very exhausting and tiring, we are now happy to take a shower and change into fresh clothes.
