I finally had a day off. Arequipa is located at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level. In the next few days, I will be driving higher and higher until I spend two days in Puno at an altitude of 3,800 meters.
But first, let's talk about my day in Arequipa: it wasn't very exciting. I took a free walking tour and in the evening, I met up with Lisa from Cologne. We met in Paracas and coincidentally met again in Huacachina.
Then it was time to go to bed, because the next morning we had a two-day tour of the Colca Canyon.
From Arequipa, we entered the Colca Canyon all the way to Chivay. During the trip, we saw lots of untouched nature, tame llamas, and even experienced hail at the highest point of the trip (4,900 meters).
Arriving in Chivay, after lunch, we went to hot springs to relax a bit from the long journey.
In the evening, we continued to a typical Peruvian evening with live music and dancing.
The next day, we set off early again, as the chances of seeing condors are higher in the morning, and we were not disappointed. A total of 9 condors flew over our heads.
On the way back, we made stops at some smaller villages and, of course, took photos with traditionally dressed Peruvians, as well as baby alpacas and an eagle.
