Mo 11.10. Kerimäki - Bike tour to Punkaharju

Partly cloudy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon

We had chosen a bike tour from the suggestions on the tourist information page, but bike tours are different in Finland.

So we start off from our cottage on the path we found yesterday and end up on the E14, which also took us to Savonlinna the day before yesterday. As is customary with major roads in Finland, there is no bike lane, not even a shoulder. We have to use this road for a few kilometers at some points.

It's particularly annoying when heavy trucks loaded with wood pass us closely. We are familiar with this feeling from the Turku archipelago, but today it has irritated us even more. It's a shame that this restricts the beauty of the landscape and the experience of its beauty.

Nevertheless, we find the beautiful spots that were announced, pass through spacious parks, and dive deep into dense forests.

Unfortunately, we miss a turn and therefore have to deal with the E14 a little longer.

For the return trip, we choose a different route that is much more relaxed to ride and, above all, much more enjoyable.

Furthermore, it is even more beautiful in terms of landscapes and leads over a ridge between two lakes.

When we arrive back at the cottage in the afternoon, we are both too exhausted to go through with the planned rowing trip. The wonderful cottage also includes a rowboat.
