The morning greets me with blue skies, sunshine and birdsong - no cars, no hustle and bustle, just beauty and peace over the valley. Pure breakfast happiness.🥰
We set off for Pienza, but unfortunately it was raining there. The ice cream tasted great, but then I made my way back to my home village—the clouds parted, the sun came out again and I set off on the steep path to Rocca Tenennano, the old fortress from the 11th century towering high above Castiglione d'Orcia. Two years ago it was still being restored, but now everything is finished and I began the arduous climb (see stairs) up.
A 360 degree panoramic view of the entire wonderful Orcia valley is the reward for climbing the narrowest steps with a view down 🙈 Look and be amazed, take in what meets your eye—I think I stood up there in the wind for an hour and did just that.
I walked back around the Rocca, along forest paths and through meadows, with bees and flowers as companions. And then I stopped off at this nice little bar for a Caffee Americano, an Aperol Spritz, a Crostino con Prosciutto e Formaggi and all for an unbeatable 9 euros—I love this bar!
Lesson of the day: with hiking poles you can manage any incline!
