Arrival at Ihuru

The small island of Angsana Ihuru, located in the North Male Atoll, is only 20 minutes away from the airport. Easy to reach by speedboat. Once we had our luggage, we were on our way within a few minutes - the hotel is very eager to ensure that everything runs quickly and smoothly (landing at Male until check-in at the bungalow, maximum 2 hours). A big plus, especially for families.

Angsana Ihuru

The island itself is often referred to as 'The Perfect Maldives Island'. Rightfully so - because it is oval shaped, 200m in width, and surrounded by a beautiful coral reef. It offers typical Maldivian amenities, which means a bungalow with sea access, an outdoor shower, and a restaurant with good food. If you're looking for entertainment, animation, or parties, you're in the wrong place. Instead, Ihuru invites you to relax with its beautiful beach, romantic sunsets, a bar with great cocktails, and excellent food.

Weather in the Maldives in August

The highly debated topic of the weather in the Maldives... In August, it is the rainy season, officially. We had a few slightly cloudy days at the beginning, but then we were pleasantly surprised with sun and short rain showers, about 1-2 times a day, for 10 days. My tip: August is great - the locals also say so - and much cheaper than in the high season.

Snorkeling and Coral Reef in Angsana Ihuru

Yes, the island is not known for its luxury, but for its stunning coral reef that surrounds it. And it really is. It starts within a few meters - everything is offered - numerous schools of fish, eagle rays, turtles, sharks, etc.

On Ihuru, there is the 'beginner' area on the inside. This area is shallow, you can almost stand, and is especially interesting for inexperienced snorkelers. For a bit more action, there are various channels on the outside. So you can basically swim around the island.

Ihuru - with Family?

We say YES! There were several families with children. Regardless of the age - the island offers a kids club, as well as babysitters for the little ones. The staff is very nice and accommodating, and what can we say - everything was perfect :-)

Comparison with other islands

Compared to other islands in the Maldives, the barefoot island Ihuru does not offer super luxury with overwater bungalows, private pools, five restaurants, or any other bells and whistles. Instead, the island scores with its nature and the reef. Don't get me wrong - the restaurant is also great, there is a rotating buffet and a la carte, and the service is top-notch - but it's just one.

Hardly any other island is as perfectly shaped as Ihuru. In terms of price, it is in the middle range (there are just as many cheaper as well as more expensive resorts). So if you're looking for the Maldives and not just luxury, this is the right place!
