Nullarbor to Perth, Australia

Publikováno: 02.05.2019

Whenever we mentioned to Australians that we were driving through the Nullarbor, the reactions were always the same: 'I've driven through there before, it was amazing' or 'I've always wanted to do that'. We just thought it was amusing how Australians love to drive 1200 km straight without having to turn (150 km of which is dead straight) through an area that literally translates to 'no trees'.

The drive was definitely an experience: drivers wave to each other with hand signals when passing by, as it is a rare occurrence. Fuel needs to be rationed properly (not a strength of the Sterner family) as some petrol stations are 200 km apart. You shouldn't need a doctor on the route either, as they have to be flown in, which is why the road sometimes becomes twice as wide and serves as an emergency landing strip for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

We arrive back in civilization in Norseman and drive along the coast towards Perth. Along the way, we encounter everchanging April weather, white sandy beaches with turquoise water, cliffs, and the tallest eucalyptus trees (up to 80 meters) that we admire on a treetop walkway.
