Fraser Island - Day 1-3

Publikováno: 08.03.2018

The name of the Aborigines for this island is K'Gari, which means paradise.

06.03.

Getting up at 6 o'clock was already announced, because an hour later the off-road vehicles were packed and it was off to the ferry to Fraser Island.

On the island we drove along the beach, which is a really strange feeling when you're used to asphalt. But since we were in the guide's car and he has experience, we felt well taken care of.

Our first stop was Lake McKenzie. To get there, we had to drive about 10 km inland and it took us an hour, which is also due to the fact that we had a flat tire on the way there... But the lake was beautiful and the water was so warm and clear, it made swimming twice as fun :)

Afterwards, like every day for the three days, we had wraps for lunch, but not before we got stuck in a pothole. :D

The conclusion of our day was at the shipwreck that stranded in 1935. This ship was a hospital ship in World War I.

When we arrived at the camp, we set up our tents and went to bed relatively early after the BBQ. The sun and doing nothing made us tired...

Getting up at 7:30 was already announced. Our guide woke us up with music and we had three songs to get up.

The first stop was the Champagne Pools. The bubbling saltwater pool is the only way to swim in the ocean, as the rocks keep the numerous sharks away. Furthermore, the view on the way there is pretty cool, as you can see far beyond K'Gari's beaches and enjoy the view of the ocean.

The view at the lookout was fantastic and we could even spot sharks in the sea. But the extreme wind and our hunger made us quickly go back :D

After eating, we went to Eli Creek. We spent the rest of the day in the cold, clear water.

Even on the last day, getting up early was announced. The alarm went off at 6:30 and we started at 8 o'clock to Lake Wabby.

Lake Wabby
We parked on the beach and had to walk about half an hour through the forest until we reached a sand dune behind which the lake was.
The water was pleasant, but unfortunately not very clear. We also had to keep moving in the water because our driver had warned us that otherwise fish would bite us.
After this last stop, we had wraps on the beach for the last time.
Once we had crossed over to the mainland, we spent the rest of the day at the hostel reading.
The little adventure went by very quickly and felt shorter than three days. Fraser Island was great, but what made this trip special was driving on the beach with the jeeps. 😊

After more than half of the time, I finally figured out how to write the blog correctly and insert pictures🎉 My technical skills are a bit lacking :D
