Welcome to Dunivaig House

This morning we left Glasgow again in beautiful May weather to pick up our vehicle for the next few days.

Shortly after, we were a bit clueless with two suitcases and two backpacks in front of a lilac Fiat 500. After a bit of Tetris playing, we actually managed to fit all our belongings into the small car. We even had space for a cooler box with the essential must-haves for a road trip (drinks, vegetables, snacks).

We left the Glasgow area heading northwest with the 'little car' (top speed about 90 km/h). In the first 20 minutes, Maxi had one sweat outbreak after another - driving on the left side of the road takes some getting used to at first. But once you leave the city and get to quieter areas, it becomes much more pleasant!

We made our first stop in the small clan town of 'Luss', right on Loch Lomond. We actually stumbled upon this romantic little town by chance because Maxi adheres to the iron no-Navi policy. That means we navigate the old-fashioned way using maps and road signs, and we avoid major roads like highways.

We highly recommend this approach. It's the only way to find the special places and get a sense of the locals.

Our next stop was at Inveraray Castle, a real fairy-tale castle! The accompanying town is also very pretty and great for a little walk.

The town of Tarbert, where we are staying tonight, is beautifully situated on Scotland's longest fjord and is characterized by fishing.

In the small bistro 'the Anchorage', we enjoyed an incredible seafood platter (see pictures)... without TripAdvisor and Google, we would have certainly missed this little gem.

After a nightcap, we are now heading back to our B&B, where we were fortunate enough to stay in the tower room with a view of the water.

Tomorrow morning, we will set out for the next major highlight - the Isle of Islay with the Feis Isles Festival awaits us.

We say goodbye in bright sunshine and see you tomorrow :)

Lessons learned:

1. The most beautiful spots are often found where you least expect them

2. If you think you have experienced absolute tranquility before, you have never been to Scotland
