Farmlife Sweden

Publikováno: 25.05.2018

For a week now, I have been on an organic farm in Sweden, near Katrineholm. Here, Katarina and Magnus live with their three sons, as well as sheep, cows, chickens, and 7 cats (4 babies).

They run an organic farm where they cultivate, care for, harvest, and finally sell various vegetables, especially tomatoes, in their own farm shop.

There is always something to do here and the day is strictly scheduled. Work starts at 8 am and finishes at 4 pm.

In between, we have "Fika" (Swedish coffee break) and lunch, which is always prepared for everyone by one of us volunteers.

At the moment, there are 6 volunteers from Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, and myself from Germany who diligently water, harvest, sow, feed lambs, wash dishes, etc.

There aren't many opportunities in the afternoon to do something, as the farm is surrounded by fields and forests. Sometimes we do something together, like having picnics, climbing, or going swimming. Otherwise, in the afternoon I just like to lay in the sun and read a book or go for a walk. In the evening, we all gather again for dinner and then usually sit together cosily.

The weather in Sweden is causing a lot of confusion, Katharina can't remember when it was this hot in May the last time. We have between 25-28 degrees Celsius with a lot of sunshine every day. The fact that it hasn't rained for over two weeks is really worrying the farmers in the area. We have to water the plants twice a day to keep them alive.
