We leave Chalon-sur-Saône towards Mâcon.
We take the harbor exit in the direction and continue as before. This way we go around the island and pass the river cruise ship docks again. Since the previous day, one ship has left the harbor and three new ships have docked. It is the first commercial operation we encounter on the Saône.
Below Chalon, the Saône joins the harbor canal. Here, a small lake opens up lined by the riverside forest.
On our journey, we pass Tournus. Behind Chalon, smaller hills rise on the right bank, and in the distance, real mountains can be seen. The town of Tournus is built on one of these hills, and the silhouette of the town can be seen from afar. There is a bustling activity along the harbor promenade. If there were mountains of 2000 meters behind the houses, one could believe that they have arrived at Lake Como.
There is a small dock in Tournus where the boat can be moored for a few hours. However, because we were a bit generous with our time in Chalon before departure, we decided not to moor.
A few kilometers after Tournus is the small village of La Truchère, where a small connecting canal branches off to Louhans.
We arrive in Mâcon around 3:30 p.m., and after going through the formalities with the harbor master, there is a small drink. We have planned a one-day stay in Mâcon to explore the city.
So far, 1020 km, 265 locks, 563 bridges.
