Hampstead Heath is one of the most popular parks in London. Located north of the Thames, it is one of the largest parks in London with a total area of 3.2 square kilometers.
If you want to get away from the city life, you should definitely visit here. Many parts of the park feel like a real forest.
It was beautiful there, especially in the autumn. The colorful trees and the rustling leaves under our feet were simply beautiful. It's nice to get out into nature and explore different sides of London.
In addition to smaller forests, the park also has many small and large lakes. There are said to be up to 25 of them. You can swim in three of the ponds, which is a rarity. These are the first natural bathing areas I've heard of where swimming is allowed. The special thing here is that two of the ponds are supposed to be separated by gender, and one where everyone can swim. I can't say to what extent this is still followed today.
Other ponds and lakes are for fishing, model boats, or left to nature.
But there are also large open meadows here, which were used a lot for flying kites on that day. I was very annoyed that I didn't have one myself.
But the Parliament Hill is a particularly popular place among Londoners. The hill is 98 meters above sea level and offers a beautiful view over London.
You can discover all the famous buildings here and have a beautiful view of the skyline along the Thames.
