I spent a weekend in Valparaiso. The city is located two hours west of Santiago by car, by the sea. However, swimming is not recommended there, as a cold South Pole current runs along the entire coast of Chile. This also brings the rather cool and dry climate of Chile.
Nevertheless, I had a wonderful stay in the city. Street artists have been able to express themselves here for years. Everything is full of graffiti. Artists from all over the world come here to spray or paint graffiti. Graffiti is also prohibited here, but the locals give permission to the artists to spray, because if they don't, one day someone will illegally spray paint your house wall with some motive. That's why the residents of the city ask recognized artists to paint their house walls beautifully. The works of recognized street artists are not illegally painted over out of respect. If you see houses without graffiti, they are painted in various colors, which is normal in the history of Valparaiso. Because the facades were made from recycled ship parts for a long time, they used leftover ship paint in all possible colors to prevent rust.
This really gives the city a unique vibe. The city is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well-known in the street art scene.
In addition to admiring hundreds of artworks, we also had really good food. I even enjoy eating fish here, in various special variations.
I'm sure the city with all its impressions will stay in my memory.
